The Hermès Birkin 20 Faubourg Handbag, often known as the “House Birkin,” began as an exploration of how architecture, fashion, and LEGO creativity could be united into a single sculptural object. Inspired by the iconic Hermès flagship boutique at 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, the project reimagines one of the world's most recognizable luxury handbags as a miniature architectural landmark. Rather than simply recreating the handbag's appearance, the design transforms it into a storytelling vessel where a fashion accessory becomes a building and a display model becomes an immersive experience.
At its core, the project celebrates the idea that great design transcends disciplines. The model combines architectural proportions, fashion-inspired detailing, and playful LEGO storytelling to create a unique collectible that appeals to builders, design enthusiasts, and adult LEGO fans alike. By merging the elegance of Parisian architecture with the iconic silhouette of the Birkin bag, the model offers a fresh interpretation of both worlds.

Design Development & Prototype
The development process involved extensive experimentation with color, materials, and visual identity. During the early design phase, six distinct color variations were explored to evaluate different moods and architectural expressions:
Flamingo Pink with Pink
Tan with White
Full White
Light Purple with White
Blue with Sand Green
Dark Blue with Dark Green
Colors and Prototype
Each version offered a unique personality. Some emphasized fashion and playfulness, while others highlighted architectural elegance and display value. Through multiple rounds of refinement, we studied color balance, visual contrast, and the relationship between the storefront-inspired façade and the iconic Birkin silhouette.
The final Dark Blue and Dark Green version emerged as the strongest solution. The dark blue tiled walls create depth, sophistication, and a sense of timeless luxury, while the dark green roof flap and handles provide a rich visual contrast. Orange awnings add warmth and energy, drawing inspiration from the vibrant character of Paris's luxury shopping streets. The result is a design that feels both architectural and fashionable while maintaining strong display presence.
Throughout the prototyping process, special attention was given to ensuring structural stability, smooth opening functionality, and a rewarding building experience. Every section was carefully refined to balance aesthetics, playability, and construction techniques.

Experience in Play
“Experience in Play” refers to the comprehensive and immersive user interaction when interacting with a toy, game, or play environment. This concept encompasses the physical actions of play and the emotional, cognitive, and social experiences that occur during playtime. In the context of LEGO design, “Experience in Play” is a crucial consideration, as it ensures that the products are not only fun and educational but also enriching and memorable.
While the model functions beautifully as a display piece, its true magic is revealed through interaction. The handbag opens to uncover a hidden interior world, transforming the build from a static object into a storytelling experience.
Inside, builders discover a miniature Birkin 20 Faubourg handbag displayed as a tribute to the original inspiration. Three oversized LEGO bricks in primary colors—red, yellow, and blue—create a playful stage that celebrates the heritage of LEGO creativity. Three pink minifigure runway models each showcase a tiny handbag, bringing the atmosphere of a high-fashion show to life.
The opening mechanism creates a moment of surprise and discovery, encouraging builders to engage with the model beyond its exterior appearance. The hidden interior rewards curiosity and invites repeated exploration, making the experience feel personal and memorable. Whether displayed closed as a sophisticated sculpture or opened to reveal its secret runway scene, the model offers two distinct storytelling experiences within a single build.
