A New Elevated Way to Experience the Ancient Town
Hoi An Green Skyway is a proposed elevated public landscape that connects heritage, mobility, nature, and community through a continuous pedestrian and bicycle. Standing approximately 30 feet (about 9 meters) above the ground at key points, this slender steel structure forms a soft green band winding through the heritage space, offering visitors fresh perspectives on traditional architecture, the river, the gardens, and the vibrant community life of Hoi An.
Inspired by human-centered mobility culture, the project separates movement into a green bicycle lane and red pedestrian promenade, while integrating planted buffers, viewing terraces, seating, accessible ramps, and connections to a small public park. Instead of competing with the old town, this new infrastructure serves as a contemporary framework—creating a sustainable public space where heritage and future modes of transportation coexist harmoniously.
