Sustainability
1. Low Carbon Footprint & Eco-Friendly Materials:
Low CO₂ concrete: Use throughout the structure to significantly reduce embodied carbon emissions.
Sustainable wood interiors: Wood interiors and products reduce environmental impact while enhancing indoor air quality, cleanliness, and coziness.
Stainless steel panels are installed on the exterior of the building, which is generally considered a sustainable material due to their durability, recyclability, and the potential for using recycled content in their production, contributing to a lower environmental impact over their lifespan.
2. Renewable Energy & Climate Adaptation:
Solar energy by installing a broad solar roof, which is clean, ensuring energy efficiency while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Cross ventilation strategies allow fresh air to circulate, reducing the need for mechanical cooling.
Shaded terraces and sky gardens regulate temperatures while providing natural comfort zones.
The rainwater collection system is for irrigation and spa operations.
3. Biophilic Design:
The G Spa Suzhou Center embraces biophilic design to reduce stress, boost well-being, and enhance sensory experiences through:
Sky gardens & vertical green walls and interior decorations: Enriching air quality and providing a seamless connection between built space and natural ecosystems.
Expansive glass windows & courtyard: Maximizing natural daylight exposure, which has been proven to improve mood, regulate circadian rhythms, and enhance relaxation.
Indoor & outdoor water elements: Rooftop pools, reflection ponds, and cascading waterfalls create a calming, meditative environment.

Interiors — Treatment Room:
The spa’s private treatment rooms are designed as immersive restorative environments that engage multiple senses to promote deep relaxation and stress reduction. Inspired by research indicating that spaces incorporating natural soundscapes, aromatherapy, and tactile elements foster enhanced restorative experiences (Yin et al., 2020), the rooms integrate subtle nature-inspired audio, a night-sky ceiling with star-like features, aromatherapy diffusers, and richly textured natural materials. These elements work cohesively to create a calm, cocooned atmosphere that supports physical and mental well-being.
The community treatment room extends this multisensory approach while fostering a shared sense of calm and connection to nature. A large panoramic window frames views of the spa’s central courtyard, visually drawing the outdoor landscape into the interior. This deliberate integration of natural light, greenery, and seasonal changes strengthens the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as the materials and furniture made of stones and natural wood, enhancing relaxation and reinforcing the overall wellness experience for visitors. By merging sensory design with visual access to nature, the community treatment space supports collective healing while maintaining a tranquil, contemplative ambiance.
Courtyard [
The courtyard of the G Spa Suzhou Center is the spiritual and spatial heart of the project, drawing deeply from Suzhou’s classical garden tradition, where architecture, nature, and human well-being exist in quiet harmony. Rather than functioning as a mere transitional space, the courtyard is conceived as a therapeutic landscape — a place of pause, reflection, and restoration.
The courtyard is carefully proportioned to feel intimate rather than monumental, reinforcing a sense of enclosure and protection. Framed by spa treatment rooms and circulation corridors, it creates a layered sequence of views — revealed gradually, never all at once — echoing the spatial philosophy of classical Suzhou gardens: “step by step, scene by scene.”
The courtyard functions as a passive environmental regulator: It allows natural daylight to penetrate deep into the spa interiors of the buildings through large class windows. Evaporative cooling from water and shading from vegetation create a comfortable microclimate throughout the year.
For visitors, the courtyard is a space of mental transition — where the pace of the city dissolves. Reflections of moving clouds, rustling bamboo, and filtered light slow perception and encourage mindfulness. Seating niches allow quiet contemplation, reinforcing the spa’s philosophy that healing begins before treatment starts.
Jinji Lake Cafe + Bar [
What Does the Jinji Lake Cafe & Bar Say About Our Architectural and Joyful Values for the Future?
The Jinji Lake Café + Bar, while belonging to the G Spa Suzhou Center, was designed as a standalone gesture of openness and community, a space of light, reflection, and belonging at the lake’s edge.
Located at the heart of the Jinji Lake waterfront, the building was envisioned as a living room for the city — a democratic space where all are welcome. Whether it’s the early riser seeking calm with a morning coffee, the afternoon gardener picking up plants, or families gathering at dusk beneath the stars, the café invites a full spectrum of everyday life.
The design draws from the celestial concept of the Super Constellation, embedding meaning in form. Its triangular winged roof, clad in mirror-finished aluminum, reflects the sky, the trees, and the movement of people and activities below, making the building a canvas of Suzhou’s living culture. The three-star sculptures at the entrance stand not only as art but as landmarks of gathering, signaling the café’s role as a local beacon.
The building’s materiality is both expressive and enduring: stainless steel, large glass windows, and exposed concrete give the structure clarity and strength, while oak wood and natural marble interiors offer warmth and human scale. A strong biophilic presence through indoor greenery, soft lighting, and natural textures creates a restorative ambiance, aligning with Suzhou’s garden heritage and the city’s long-standing relationship with nature.
The courtyard and sky garden open the building vertically and horizontally, offering spaces for both solitude and celebration. Visitors can gaze across the lake or gather in shaded corners; they can sip, talk, rest, and play. These gestures are not architectural afterthoughts — they are social infrastructure, intentionally crafted to nurture spontaneous interaction and public joy.
Functionally, the building does more than serve food. It includes a gift and plant shop, subtly blending commerce, community, and ecology. Every element is designed to invite continuity — to extend the experience beyond the building, into homes, balconies, and daily life.
Sustainability here is embedded, not declared: solar system installed follows the pathway of the star roof panel, durable, low-maintenance materials, and a deep integration of greenery represent not just environmental responsibility, but a design language that supports slow living and a long-term view.
The Jinji Lake Café + Bar gives form to joy, ceremony, and connection. It reflects the contemporary spirit of Suzhou — elegant, open, and quietly radiant — and in doing so, it becomes more than a café. It becomes a shared memory in the making.
