Stockholm Stadium is the world's largest mass timber football stadium, with a seating capacity of 99,000. It is situated in Ostermalm, Stockholm. The form of Stockholm Stadium emerges from the idea of continuity between landscape, people, and structure. Instead of designing the arena as a singular monumental object, the building is shaped as a continuous timber ring carved by wind, circulation, and public movement. The soft triangular geometry creates a flowing civic gesture that embraces the city while opening toward the sky and the field below. The roof becomes an inhabitable environmental surface composed of photovoltaic panels, integrated daylight apertures, rainwater collection channels, and mass timber ribs that radiate like the growth rings of a tree; as well as providing a sky garden on the roof of the stadium. Internally, the stadium is conceived as a layered social landscape instead of a closed sports vessel — concourses become public streets, terraces become urban gardens, and the seating bowl becomes an amphitheater for culture, sports, music, and collective gathering. The architecture uses Swedish mass timber, glulam megastructures, low-carbon concrete, recycled aluminum, and bio-based insulation to create warmth, tactility, and human intimacy at an urban scale.
